Nice one :D

I was wondering when you'd get this out, and playing it again brought a smile to my face, even though it's 1am and my feet are sore and I have a headache. The controls are very simple and intuitive, but highly effective. The graphics were also fairly simple yet effective, which is probably good considering how much it lags when there are 200+ ninjas on screen. I love the dynamic background and the screams of the ninjas. It is very well programmed - I didn't find any glitches. My only complaint is that there are no highscore boards, so I can't tell if I'm good or bad.
Great game :)

P.s. Is this supposed to be an "evaluation version"?

CrazyChihuahua responds:

Ya, I believe the scoreboards would work on the Hallpass site, but I'm not totally sure on that, as it's not my thing to do (because I have no idea how to do it).

Also, it's not an evaluation version, but apparently it wasn't taken out with the updated version =P

Glad you liked it.

A worthy competitor

As stubborn as I am, I have to say this is definately a worthy competitor to the game I'm working on for the contest. The gameplay was varied and interesting, if not a little slow, and the enemy-capturing animation made me laugh. It'll challenge kids to think. :) Good work.

smokinjoeevil responds:

Well, I should certainly hope it's a stiff competitor! :) I also do realize that it can lag somewhat at times... the graphics are what are doing it, and having so many on-screen. One of the slight problems with an 800 X 600 size requirement, and trying to pack enough into each part of the levels to keep 'em interesting. To my surprise, many of the serious coding-milestones (like adding the enemies) didn't cause any noticeable extra lag. Granted, the enemies don't do much, but there are consistent hits tests and what-not going on once you get a certain distance from them.

Thanks again, and good luck to you!

Nice Idea

A nice little time waster. It's not something I could play for hours on end, but its good if you have 10 minutes to spare. I Liked how the country names were randomised and there were so many of them - I dont think I got the same one twice. Its also good how theres a choice of difficulty levels.
A few ideas for improvements:
- maybe let the user choose how long they want to play for
- have a time challenge mode, where the player has to unscramble 10 countries in the shortest time possible.
- you could have a picture mode, where it shows a scrambled up picture of a country (but this might be going in a different direction from a word game)
Overall it's a nice game. 4/5
Stay Funky ;)

LuckyLollipopLad responds:

Thanks! I actually find myself enjoying for ages... I got 234 on 'hard' just now! I've definitely learnt the country names well, thanks to this game.

I think that having too many options can be confusing for folk. And with a constant 90s, folk could compare their scores more easily.

The 'time challenge' mode is a cool idea! I'll have to see if I can implement that for a later version!

Not sure how you imagine the scrambled picture idea working. A slider puzzle? A drag 'n' drop? In any case, it seems like it'd just be like other, pre-existing games.

Glad you enjoyed it. But 3 for sound? With that awesome tune?

Heh. Thanks for the review.

You stay funky, too!

Main Complaint: Filesize

I really do not see why a simple game like this should have a 6MB filesize. PLEASE compress your music and images more!
Apart from that, it's an alright game: the graphics are smooth and shiny, the machine works as it should, and there's a save/load game feature. No points for originality though; the game could have done with a few extra features, for example being able to play other casino-style games with the money you earn, in order to compete for a high-score against other players. Or you could have made it like one of those big, flashy, complicated machines you get down pubs, with loads of seemingly randomly flashing lights where no-one really knows how to play. That would be more original, as i have yet to see an accurate simulation of said machines. As for sound, I felt that the music was not really neccessary; it didnt contribute to the game at all. But then again, I wasnt really listening.
Overall, i'm sorry to say that I can't really give this more than a 4 out of 10. You've clearly spent time on it, and with a bit more thought you could create some really great games, hoever, this just doesnt make me want to play for any more than 30 seconds or so. There's nothing spurring me on, no reward, no variety. And call me biased, but if i'm going to be honest, if it was just 500KB (instead of the 6MB monster it currently is), then I may have given it a higher score. It just isnt worth it for what it is.

TylerProjects responds:

Ok, I've squeezed it to 2mb.

Kinda dull without music, else I would have kept it at 200kb... >.<

Nice one John!

Another brilliant, fast paced, and original game. How do you manage to produce such masterpieces AND work on four second firestorm at the same time?! Annyway:
Graphics: Simple, yet really effective. I love the particle explosion type things, even though they did slow it down a bit (i do realise you can turn them off... but i liked them)
Style: I'm never sure how to mark style. I just mark it on originality and effort. So, top marks for you!
Sound: I cant actually remember that now... give me a sec... aha. Funky music. Could have done with more sound effects for explosions and damage, etc, to polish it off.
Violence: Well, you cant really call it violent when boxes explode =) But it was explodey enough to warrant a decnt violence mark i think =)
Interactivity: Could have done with maybe a difficulty selection, and a variety of weapons. (there may have been more weapons... i died at level 25... so i wouldnt know)
Humour: not relevant
Overall: Great game! I'll play it again when i dont have 5 people trying to talk to me on msn at the same time... oh yeah, i almost forgot, a pause button would be helpful. Good luck with the future! (and with f-s-fs!)

jmtb02 responds:

HOT review. Thanks!

Nice little game =)

I couldnt get past level 3 though =( silly me...
Anyway, the actual review:
Graphics: Some OK graphics here, although these didnt look like they were drawn flash... try making them flashier and shinier. Flashy and Shiny is good!
Style: A fairly original game with good gameplay
Sound: Theres just a couple of sounds here; i think you should try a better variety. Also, add some funky techno music (turn offable of course) would help your score alot, methinks.
Violence: Not appropriate...
Interactivity: Well its a game, so i cant really write much for this can i ^_^. Again, try adding some extra sound options. Maybe have a level editor too.
Humour: not appropriate
Overall: A decent game. I voted 4. Hope to see more from you in the future!
Reviewers LOVE author responses!

sbongo responds:

Hi guys!
Thanks for the valuable feedback and playing my games.
The feedback will allow me to improve and it will be used in version 2.
I have actually a few beta testers for this game and they completed all 24 levels so its possible to complete all the levels.

Thanks again! ;)

...

Well... i generally like webcam games, but i didnt really see any game element to this. It needs to be interactive in some way! I notices there was an activity meter, i thought that this might at least have some kind of effect no the 'poogles'... but after waving my arms around and looking like a twat for 5 minutes...nothing happened... so... BLAM! Sorry!

TRIPLEPOOGLE responds:

No blam point for you :3

Nice quiz

I got 8 out of 15 first time. Nice to see a quiz which counts your score and doesnt send you back to the start. I liked how you covered a variety of different animations and not just the same type over and over. Although, I have a couple of suggestions:
-instead of waiting until the end to see if you got them right, have it so that you see the answer after each question
-music and sound... and i do realise you mentioned it but i'm saying it anyway ^_^
-maybe instead of having the same questions each time, you program in say, 100 questions, and it picks a random selection of 15, or whatever. That way replay value increases by like 1000%, and you dont have people just going through and memorising the answers to get 15 out of 15
-it would be nice to have more information about each of the movies after you answer the question about them, e.g how popular they are/were, who made it, a link to it etc.
-another idea for making the whole thing more interesting is that you could ask the animators of the respective cartoons if they would mind you borrowing say a 20 second clip of their animation, then you could ask questions about it. It would be better for people who havent been at newgrounds for as long and havent seen as many of them.

Hope to see more from you in the future ^_^ good luck

LuckyLollipopLad responds:

Glad you liked it!

And one idiot was saying it's broken since you progress with a wrong answer... heh.

Thanks for the feedback and really thorough review.

1 - You can see if you got each question right. Check the text under the level icon (and the icon itself) which change after a correct answer. Still, yeah, you don't know the correct answer...

2 - will do

3 - After you suggested this, I had a think. I even programed something to work out how many questions I might need.

It's something I might look into, though at a later date. With options for different game lengths. It's certainly something that'd take like 10 times as long...

Anyway unless I had thousands of questions, folk'd still be able to memorise them, I reckon.

4 - will do.

5 - This really isn't possible. Firstly, I doubt a lot of folk would want to give me their stuff. Secondly, I use an old version of Flash. Lastly, some authors aren't around anymore.

It's similar to an idea I was thinking of a while ago though, and you may see that sometime in the distant future...

Totally different quiztype though.

Thanks again for all the excellent feedback. Been a joy reading the review.

Stay funky!

Thats a nice little game :-)

Simple, but addictive. Maybe you should add levels of difficulty, and sounds. Animate the fish maybe and improve the graphics. Good job, keep up the good work :-)

Wake330 responds:

Hmm, we'll think about it!

Thanks for the review!
